Bottle #グレングラント(GLENGRANT)
A recently bottled 1970s matured Glen Grant, delivering deliciousness that lives up to expectations. Glen Grant GLENGRANT 1973-2013 39yo Mackillop's Choice #6582 52.6% The nose is strongly fruity with light jam notes of plum, berries, orange marmalade, vanilla, caramel, black sugar, a touch of sherry, tea, and underlying malty/oily characteristics. On the palate, it starts smooth and expands into a richly fruity profile with gentle berry jam sweetness and subtle acidity. Good woodiness, tannins, and a deep malty umami from the background. It offers a rich yet balanced mouthfeel with satisfying depth. 【Good/Very Good】 Bottled last year by Mackillop's Choice and recently arrived in Japan. This Glen Grant 1973, 39-year-old matured bottling. The bottler seems to lack an official agent in Japan, resulting in few recent releases entering the domestic market. The nose reveals a diverse array of fruits typical of long maturation, with sherry cask influence present but not overpowering. Impressively, a sense of heavy maltiness from the depths was notable for its aging period. Upon tasting, as expected for a long-matured high-proof whisky, it begins with a gentle mouthfeel that expands into a richly aromatic profile. The sherry cask influence brings jammy fruit sweetness and acidity, while the woodiness adds depth. It appears to be a sherry refill cask, yet despite its long aging, the woodiness and tannins are not harsh, with malty characteristics remaining. The balanced body with moderate weight was a pleasant surprise. It gave the impression of being slowly matured over time and bottled at its optimal drinking stage.
