Glenlochy 1974 13 Year Sestante High Proof
Bottle #グレンロッキー(GLENLOCHY)
It had the aroma typical of a short-aged Sestante High Proof.
Glenlochy GLENLOCHY 1974-1987 13yo Sestante 67.3%
The aroma featured rugged barley, cinnamon, Hachimachi (a Japanese sweet), faint orange and apricot jam. Upon drinking, despite its high proof, the stimulation was minimal, with a heavy barley sensation and intense umami that accumulated. The texture had a chewy quality, with subtle citrus, cinnamon, and vanilla notes. While not complex, it offered a layered, flavorful taste with clear contours and a crisp finish.
【Very Good】
This is the High Proof version of Glenlochy 1974, aged for 13 years by Sestante. Short-aged High Proof bottles from Sestante, like the previously introduced Glenrothes, often evoke cinnamon and Hachimachi-like characteristics. Though highly proofed, the aging process has softened its intensity. While not a bottle with many detectable aromas, it delivered a concentrated, sharp umami reminiscent of crystallized barley. Each flavor had clear outlines, yet there was an indescribable, layered goodness that accumulated. Though my expression may be crude, it's a bottle with no complexity but strong umami, similar to the unique flavor found in Sestante's short-aged High Proof or Green Bottle Caol Ila. I suspect the bottling was initially sharp and rough, but after nearly 30 years of aging, this flavor has emerged. There's no trace of deterioration from aging, and indeed, High Proof whiskies tend to remain stable over time.
