A Strathmill with rich aging characteristics.
Strathmill STRATHMILL 1974-2007 BBR Berry's Own Selection #1212 46%
The aroma is of strong, matured estery fruits, persimmon and orange, with a hint of cinnamon and pleasant oak.
When tasted, it has a gentle mouthfeel, similar to the aroma with long-matured estery fruits, a pleasant sweetness and a subtle oak bitterness. Although it lacks a thick body, it leaves a pleasant aftertaste.
[Good/Very Good]
A classic from BBR's Berry's Own Selection, Strathmill 1974.
Bottled in 2007, it has aged for approximately 33 years.
A long-matured watered-down type, with both aroma and flavor being estery and quite fruity.
It is unclear whether it was watered down after the alcohol content dropped or if the original spirit was naturally light, but the individuality of the original spirit and its thickness were not strongly felt.
Nevertheless, it has a good balance between fruity sweetness and bitterness, and I think it is an excellent example of a showy long-matured Speyside malt.
