Bottle #ブローラ(BRORA)
A balance of Clydesdale-like qualities and exquisite harmony. Brora BRORA 1974 27yo WILSON & MORGAN 46% The aroma features cool chlorine and metallic notes, alongside warm apricot jam and apple jam, tree resin, wax, cresol, and a smoky ashen quality. On the palate, it offers a smooth mouthfeel with gentle viscosity, expanding powerfully and aromatically with apricot jam, tree resin, followed by metallic notes, sweet richness, oiliness, a faint gravelly earthy character, and a smoky, long finish. [Very Good/Excellent] This Brora 1974, bottled by Wilson & Morgan, was aged for 27 years. In the early 1970s, Brora often exhibited sharp peat alongside cool metallic or chlorinated nuances reminiscent of contemporary Ardbeg. As the decade progressed, it gradually incorporated more Clydesdale-like viscosity, with stronger notes of apricot jam, beeswax wax, and tree resin. Recalling my first experience with Brora in the 1981 Signature bottling, which felt purely peaty and Clydesdale-like, I later encountered the bold Brora character of the early 1970s, which reshaped my perception. The previous Brora I tasted was Old & Rare 1972, which epitomized the sharp, cool Brora style. This bottling, however, presented a simultaneous warmth of Clydesdale-like qualities alongside the aforementioned notes. The warmer nuances emerged first in flavor, with a unique fruity and resinous viscosity, warm sweetness, followed by the distinct cold, sharp metallic and peaty elements from behind. The Clydesdale-like qualities I enjoy were present alongside a clear Brora identity in both aroma and flavor, creating an unexpected sense of unity. This balance was exquisite, making it exceptionally enjoyable.
