It's been a while since I drank it, but the deliciousness was so intense that I felt like melting. Laphroaig 1974 31 Year Old Official Bottling for La Maison du Whisky 49.7% one of 910 bottles, Sherry Wood Casks The aroma is sensuous and rich, with notes of concentrated grape juice, prunes, mangoes, ripe tropical fruits, premium chocolate, decaying leaves, tanned leather, reduced seafood stock, iodine-rich heavy peat, and extremely rich. When drinking, it starts with a smooth mouthfeel that expands into an intense, aromatic flavor. The aroma is followed by a strong tropical fruit presence, including concentrated grape juice with the skin, juicy and intense sweetness, a firm tannic depth to balance it, savory decaying leaves, iodine-rich peat, and a long, intoxicating aftertaste with a sensual edge. [Excellent] An official bottling of Laphroaig 1974, aged for 31 years, released specifically for La Maison du Whisky. Among Laphroaig's official bottles, this is one of the most highly regarded and expensive. I had missed out on a previous release at Yurakucho, which sold out in three days, so it's been quite a while since I drank this. This is an incredible bottle where the rich, juicy sherry character and the bold Laphroaig Islay malt personality are seamlessly fused. Uniquely, it contains a strong tropical fruit element that differs from the typical dried-out characteristics of long-term aging. Not only does it have all the desired elements of a delicious sherry-cask Islay malt, but it also includes sensuous and deep elements like tanned leather and earthy notes, plus additional pluses such as an overtly tropical fruit presence. The intoxicating aftertaste is also remarkable, and the body is substantial enough to last for a long time. There are no other official sherry-cask Laphroaig bottles like this. I've heard that the original casks were special sherry casks personally brought in by individuals, which the distillery later purchased. While I can't confirm the truth of this story, it aligns with the narrative. This is a flawless bottle with no flaws. I'm fortunate to own one myself, and it's like a treasure. Deciding when to open it is truly a dilemma. #Laphroaig (LAPHROAIG)
