A Longmorn that embodied the characteristics of a long-matured Speyside. Longmorn LONGMORN 1975-2007 31yo THE WHISKY FAIR 52.9% one of 116 bottles, Bourbon Hogshead The aroma featured strong woody notes, apricot jam, marmalade, vanilla, mint, herbs, and a refined barley scent from the depths. It was rich with a smooth mouthfeel, intense sweetness of apricot jam and pineapple, tannic woody bitterness, mint, vanilla cream, oil, and a long, rich, matured finish. 【Good/Very Good】 This Longmorn 1975, matured for 31 years, was bottled in 2007 by The Whisky Fair in Linlithgow. The aroma first presented strong woody characteristics, followed by concentrated notes of apricot and orange jam, with nuances of vanilla and herbs, creating a rich profile. Upon tasting, the jam-like sweetness was prominent, with tropical flavors of pineapple emerging. The woody character remained strong, and the tannins were pronounced but not off-putting. The texture was slightly creamy and oily, with a long, rich, matured finish. While it lacked the distinct tropical flavors found in the same vintage LIFE bottling of Longmorn, this was a rich and matured Longmorn. The woody notes were somewhat dominant, suggesting a slightly over-ripe character, yet it retained the typical Longmorn Speyside aroma. Interestingly, I had purchased a bottle of this approximately seven years ago and found little change in its character since then. Typically, I've noticed that the atmosphere of a whisky can shift slightly after about five years from bottling, but this case did not show such changes. Perhaps the whisky was already sufficiently matured and stable at the time of bottling? Indeed, long-matured cask strength whiskies often show minimal aging changes in the bottle, even with age. It might also be that bottles from agencies with similar bottling profiles experience less change in the bottle, whether positively or negatively. Regardless of high or low alcohol content, I have several bottles at home, but now I find myself thinking carefully about when to open them... #Longmorn (LONGMORN) #Thoughts
