one of 1500 bottles, TWO EX SPANISH OLOROSO SHERRY CASK FINISHES
The aroma is elegant and strongly fruity, with good sherry, prunes, dried fruits, brandy-like grape and peach juice, mint. Upon drinking, it has a slightly chemical but strong fruitiness with plums, pineapple, peaches, and a sweet, juicy tanginess with good acidity and a refined woody character. The long-lasting, beautiful finish is free of roughness or clumsiness.
【Very Good】
The official TOMATIN 30-year-old is marked with a small 1976 vintage. It is said to be finished in two Spanish oak sherry casks and then vatting together. With an outturn of 1500 bottles, the original casks (all from 1976) vatting into the two sherry casks must be a considerable number. Bottled around 2006-2007, it's an older bottling but was already a high-priced bottle at the time of release. The aroma starts strongly fruity, with rich sherry fruits and a juicy peach-like sensation typical of 76 TOMATIN. Upon drinking, while there's a slightly medicinal chemical note characteristic of TOMATIN, the fruits are diverse and tropical in flavor, bringing a sense of juiciness. It lacks the excessive woody character often found in 1976 bottlings, instead offering a refined flavor where the juicy aspect is prominent. Many bottlers' 1976 TOMATIN bottles often had roughness or clumsiness but still delivered outstanding tropical fruits. However, this bottle is undoubtedly a high-end official bottling. The careful selection of casks and thorough finishing process are evident, resulting in a completely refined flavor without any roughness. That was the most memorable aspect.
