Bottle #グレンギリー(GLENGARIOCH)
It certainly feels like a unique character.
Glen Cawdor (Glengarioch) 1976 Samaroli 57%
80s bottling, one of 960 bottles
The aroma has a good old-world character, with ripe oranges and apples that seem almost overripe, a dusty, musty quality, vanilla, cheese, earthy peat, smoke and creosote, diluted honey. The texture is one that lingers on the tongue, with a rich barley umami, and the same overripe oranges and apples as in the aroma. A strong earthy peat with tar and soil notes, a honey-like sweetness that isn't overpowering, and a long finish.
[Very Good]
A 1976 Glen Cawdor bottled by Samaroli in the 80s, full proof.
Similar to bottles like 1951 or 1964 which are believed to be from Springbank, this bottle lacks a distillery name and is thought to be Glengarioch.
The aroma has an overarching old-world character, with a fruitiness reminiscent of Brolyer that feels slightly decayed, a creosote-like quality evocative of Ardmore, and a clear sense of cheese and earthy peat.
Tasting it also reveals similar fruit and peat notes as the aroma. Although the alcohol content is high and the maturation period isn't exceptionally long, there's no harshness, with rich barley umami and a unique peat sensation that lingers on the tongue.
The finish is long-lasting, maintaining its distinctive flavor profile.
While there are elements that connect to other distilleries' characteristics, overall, the unique peat sensation and other qualities make it impossible not to think of it as a 70s Glengarioch, with its distinctive character.
