Glen Scotia GLENSCOTIA 1977-1991 13yo CADENHEAD Authentic Collection 58.6%
Bottle #グレンスコシア(GLENSCOTIA)
This is a short-matured Glen Scotia from Cadenhead, as expected. The aroma has strong stimulation with apple and plum, sharp barley notes, cinnamon and ginger, plain cask influence. When drinking, it starts softly but gradually becomes spicy with a stimulating sensation, plain cask influence, heated apple, plum, ginger and cinnamon, tasteless sweetness, strong barley notes with umami, and minerals from the depth, finishing with a dry and crisp aftertaste. [Good/Very Good] This is the green bottle Glen Scotia 1977, matured for 13 years from Cadenhead's Authentic Collection. Originally thought to be a cask with minimal influence, but due to its short maturation, it has a very plain flavor profile that highlights the original spirit's character, typical of green Cadenhead. Despite being 25 years since bottling, it still has a stimulating character with no trace of oldness. It retains strong stimulation and sharp barley notes, as well as nuances common in younger malts like ginger. While a Campbeltown-like minerality can be found, overall it left an impression of a plain, dry and crisp malt. It seems the mouthfeel has become slightly mellow, with many of the fruit notes having developed within the bottle, yet it still felt very lively. Although I had the impression that malt whisky changes less with chill filtering, Cadenhead likely didn't use it, as expected. Thus, the plain cask influence and high alcohol content contributed significantly to its lack of change.
