Convalmore CONVALMORE 1977-2007 30yo CADENHEAD 61.6% One of 240 bottles, Butt
Bottle #コンバルモア(CONVALMORE)
Characteristic of a unique nuance similar to long-matured grain. Convalmore CONVALMORE 1977-2007 30yo CADENHEAD 61.6% One of 240 bottles, Butt The aroma is a gentle sherry, amaretto or nut liqueur, coconut, vanilla, oil, rich. When drinking it expands powerfully and aromatically with a sweet, full-bodied amaretto-like flavor, a gently tightening woodiness and tannin, savory wheat essence, vanilla, coconut, oily and long finish. [Good/Very Good, Interesting] Cadenhead bottled in 2007, Convalmore 1977, 30 years old. Despite the 30-year maturation, the alcohol content is over 60%, suggesting it was matured in a very dry environment. Marked as Butt, the first impression of the aroma was sherry-like, but at the same time I felt nuances often found in bourbon casks such as vanilla and coconut, along with a strong oily character. When drinking it is certainly powerful but without the sharp sting typical of 30-year-old whiskies, showing a rich expansion. A sweet, full-bodied amaretto-like flavor combined with a strong woody character and its tannins, an unexpectedly savory wheatiness, the same vanilla, coconut, and oil elements as in the aroma were strong with a long finish. It was impressive that despite being a sherry cask, it had a bourbon-like character. The unique oily and vanilla-like sweet nuances reminiscent of long-matured grain were characteristic, and I don't recall ever drinking a whisky like this Convalmore. An interesting bottle.
