Bottle #ポートエレン(PORT ELLEN)
A concentrated citrus note—this was my favorite type of Port Ellen.
Port Ellen PORT ELLEN 1978-2002 23yo SIGNATORY #5344 54.3%

The aroma features concentrated grapefruit, dry barley, strong peat and smoke, seaweed mineral notes with briny wind. On the palate, it offers citrus sensations like grapefruit juice, a balance of syrupy sweetness and fresh acidity, subtle vegetal hints, sharp finish, slightly cold nuances, a weightless texture, and a faintly mineral smoky aftertaste.
【Good/Very Good】
This Port Ellen 1978, aged 23 years, was bottled by Signatory in 2002. The aroma clearly conveyed concentrated grapefruit, a dominant smoky peat character, and distinct maritime nuances. On the palate, it offered fresh citrus juice sensations with a refined balance of sweetness and acidity, leaving an impression of its slightly cool, crisp finish. Additionally, for a peaty Islay cask strength whisky, the body felt relatively light, which I found characteristic of Port Ellen. This level of maturity with a slightly lighter feel aligns with my personal preferences.
This bottle was received as a gift for the 8th anniversary of Walko Hall in Takadaguchi.
