Talisker TALISKER 1979-1993 14yo CADENHEAD Authentic Collection 64.3%
The aroma is elegant and sharp, with a strong, flavorful maltiness, honey-lemon notes, sensuous nuances, seaweed-like brininess, and a powerful peat.
Upon drinking, it starts with an unexpectedly gentle mouthfeel before turning sharply spicy. It offers a pleasant balance of citrus and honey sweetness with acidity, umami from seafood dashi, smoky and powerful peat, and a long, spicy finish.
【Very Good/Excellent】
From Cadenhead's Authentic Collection, this is Talisker 1979 aged for 14 years.
Including the green-bottled Authentic Collection (also known as Green Cadenhead), several Talisker 1979 bottlings have been released by Cadenhead, all of which are delicious with the characteristic Talisker flavor profile without cask influence.
This bottle is the shortest maturation period among 1979 Taliskers I've experienced, at just 14 years.
As expected, it has the sharpness of Green Cadenhead's cask-free aroma, but due to its aging process, it carries a deep, flavorful nuance and a subtle sensuality.
Of course, the strong peat and seaweed-like brininess that define Talisker are also present.
Upon drinking, this is clearly a result of aging - the mouthfeel feels gentle, then explodes with the spiciness typical of high-proof Talisker.
However, there's no harshness from the alcohol strength, with pleasant sweetness and umami, followed by a smoky, spicy finish that lingers endlessly.
Due to the mellowing of the initial intensity from aging, this bottle makes Talisker's house style more accessible, allowing one to fully enjoy its straightforward deliciousness.
