What I think of as 'Hawstyle' was clearly present. Dallas Dhu DALLAS DHU 1979-2000 20yo Douglas Laing Old Malt Cask 50% one of 324 bottles The aroma has a simple yet strong barley note upfront, slightly mellowed, with wax and oil, faint vanilla and citrus. On the palate, it starts gently, then gradually becomes spicy. Similar to the aroma, there are wax and oil notes, with a chewy, robust barley sweetness, subtle sweet richness, and a long, oily finish. [Good/Very Good] This Dallas Dhu 1979, 20-year-old whisky is from Douglas Laing's OMC. I had a period where I loved Clydesdale intensely, and at home I often drank 70s Dallas Dhu as a similar malt. However, this bottle strongly evokes the waxy nuances of Clydesdale and Craigellachie. While I didn't feel the same sticky viscosity as Clydesdale in this bottle, it was still waxy and oily, with a delicious barley depth that emerges when chewed. I think the classification of distilleries in terms of aroma varies depending on what each drinker perceives as characteristic, but to me, these three distilleries fall into the same category. #Dallas Dhu (DALLAS DHU)
