[Good/Very Good]
A Signatory Mosstowie 1979, 35-year-old vintage bottled by The Whisky Hoop. Although the bottling occurred last year, it was released as a new release in mid-May of this year. The aroma immediately presents a long-matured, estery character with diverse fruity notes. Elements of bourbon cask influences like coconut and vanilla, along with a creamy nuance, created an impression akin to a luxurious fruit cake.
On the palate, it delivers a mellow, cask-strength-like mouthfeel with a degree of alcohol warmth. The diverse fruity characteristics from the aroma are fully present, evoking a sense of euphoria.
The refined balance of sweet and tart fruit flavors is pleasant. While the depth and complexity are moderate, the overall drinking experience was very enjoyable.
This bottle showcases a pronounced fruity character, reminiscent of older Duncan Taylor Pearles Collection or past Whisky Agency releases where long maturation had mellowed the body and graininess. The overwhelming fruity profile, coupled with a sense of intoxication, made for a beautiful Mosstowie.
Given the release through The Whisky Hoop, there's an inherent familiarity that might have led to a slightly stricter evaluation. However, the pronounced fruity character suggests many would rate this as Very Good or higher.
Contrasting with types where rustic, coarse graininess is dominant, this long-matured whisky isn't inexpensive. Yet, it's refreshing when such bottles occasionally appear in The Whisky Hoop's releases.
