Opportunities to drink Clyde from the 70s have decreased.
Clyde CAOL ILA 1979 29yo Jean Boyer BEST CASKS of SCOTLAND 46%
The aroma has orange, a plant-like quality, slightly chlorine, vanilla, and peat with tar, a moderate amount of malt. When drinking, it starts with a soft mouthfeel and gradually expands into orange, apricot tea, diluted honey, a gentle sweetness with a briny touch, a savory wheat-like flavor that seeps in, and a strong plant-like quality with sharp peat. Good/Very Good.
This is the Clyde 1979, aged for 29 years, from Jumbo Wye's Best Casks of Scotland in France.
The aroma was gentle, typical of Clyde, but when drinking, it had a soft mouthfeel reminiscent of an aged watered-down bottle, with a texture that gradually expands and seeps in.
The balance of fruitiness from citrus and apricot, the subtle sweetness of honey, saltiness, and the savory wheat flavor was well-balanced, with a strong peat presence. I thought it was a well-balanced bottle as an Islay malt.
Indeed, watered-down bottles cannot be underestimated, and there seems to be a specific drinking time for such bottles.
This bottle particularly had a texture that felt best when drunk at the right time.
