Glenury Royal 1980-2001 21 Year Old Douglas Laing Old Malt Cask 50%
Bottle #グレンユーリーロイヤル(GLENURY ROYAL)
I thought it was Aggie, but it turned out to be Urie. This is my first time drinking OMC.
Glenury Royal GLENURY ROYAL 1980-2001 21yo DOUGLAS LAING Old Malt Cask 50%
one of 504 bottle, SHERRY CASK
The aroma has a faint old sherry, plum, dried orange, light caramel, concentrated black tea, strong simple barley notes, nuts, and rich.
When drinking, it starts with a gentle mouthfeel, expanding into light old sherry, plum jam, and tea. It has a chewy texture that lingers on the tongue, a rich sweetness, a solid barley flavor, and a pleasant long aftertaste with savory notes.
【Very Good】
This is Glenury Royal 1980, 21-year-old maturation from Douglas Laing's OMC. Since there was no 'Royal' notation, I initially thought it might be a Glen Agye from the 80s vintage. However, upon closer inspection, it's actually Glenury.
Although the distillery doesn't release many bottles, this is my first time trying Douglas Laing's version. A gentle sherry note with a slightly aged nuance is present in both the aroma and flavor, bringing out fruity, caramel-like characteristics, and a tea-like nuance from bottle aging. The core barley notes remained strong, which was impressive.
There's also a textured sensation that lingers on the tongue, suggesting bottle aging. With a solid barley base and diverse aromas, it's a very delicious and well-balanced malt. Bottled at 50% ABV after 15 years of aging, the flavors were clearly at their peak.
