Dailuaine's Limited Edition has finally arrived.
Dailuaine DAILUAINE 1980-2015 34yo OB LIMITED RELEASE 50.9%
One of 2952 Bottles
The aroma expands gracefully with orange peel, apricot tea, faintly pear and plum jam, honey, strong oak, slightly tree resin and oil, rich.
When drinking, it starts with a rounded mouthfeel that spreads into a fragrant complexity. A slightly textured sensation wraps around the tongue, with apricot jam and honey's rich sweetness, a savory wheatiness with chewy depth, strong oak and its tannic edge, thick body, slightly oily with a long finish.
【Very Good】
Among this year's Diageo Official Limited Releases, Dailuaine stood out as likely the first non-Manochi limited release. The vintage is 1980, aged for 34 years.
Compared to typical Diageo releases, this has a more bourbon cask-influenced, floral aroma. Ripe citrus and fruits like white peach emerge from long maturation, alongside hints of oak and tree resin. Overall, it's a classic, plain-style malt.
On the palate, there's a rich, expansive flavor with more of a robust wheat core than the long-matured nuances in the aroma. The concentrated fruity notes and honeyed sweetness, along with a straightforward savory wheatiness, were impressive. The thick body and long finish were very pleasant.
Interestingly, on the first sip, the oak seemed a bit strong, but on the second sip, it had mellowed and wasn't as noticeable.
Despite this, both aroma and flavor remained fundamentally in line with the plain, orthodox style common to Diageo's limited releases. However, a subtle, elegant maturity emerged from the depths, which was memorable.
I think Diageo must have good casks suited for long maturation.
Ultimately, it was a perfectly balanced, delicious whisky without any reservations.
