Lochside 1981-2000 18yo Murray MacDavid #MM9636 46% Refill Sherry Cask
Adding water gives a slightly complex aroma, ripe oranges, damp warehouse, cereal notes with paperiness, some greenery. The mouthfeel is smooth and syrupy, apricot jam sweetness, tropical elements like pineapple, some bitterness, a faint oily fruity finish.
Bottled by Murray MacDavid in 2000, Lochside 1981, 18-year maturation. Overall, there's a slightly damp impression with ripe citrus, but the aroma strongly suggests wet cardboard. When drinking, the smooth mouthfeel brings out a clear ripe fruitiness and the tropical fruit flavor expected from 1981 is fully present. Similar to the aroma, there are paperiness and slightly grassy notes, but the fruitiness remains strong. However, with several unappealing elements, it's honestly not a favorite bottle for me. Still, it was an interesting bottle that clearly showcased the fruitiness of Lochside 1981. It's somewhat similar to Littlemill or Irish whiskies as well.
For those who don't mind paperiness and these plant-like notes, it could be quite enjoyable as a fruity whisky.
