Short maturation Port Ellen, how many more times can we enjoy this spec? Port Ellen PORT ELLEN 1981-1992 11yo CADENHEAD 150th anniversary bottling 64.1% The aroma features fresh lemon, a rough and strong barley note, cool and sharp metallic and chlorine notes, vanilla, sea breeze, tar, and a strong peatiness. Upon drinking, it gradually reveals spicy notes, lemon, and a deep, rich barley umami flavor. The texture is quite chewy with a broth-like seafood essence. Similar to the aroma, it has sharp peat and metallic notes, with a refined sweetness and acidity. It is quite briny with a beautiful finish. 【Very Good】 Cadenhead's Authentic Collection, the Port Ellen 1981 150th anniversary bottling aged for 11 years. This series often features short-matured, high-proof expressions with plain cask characteristics, and this bottle is no exception. The aroma has fresh citrus notes, a young and intense barley character, metallic sharpness and chlorine reminiscent of Ardbeg's edge. The strong smoky peatiness typical of Islay is also clearly present. Upon drinking, although the initial attack isn't overly rough for its proof, a gradual spicy pepperiness emerges. Similar to the aroma, fresh citrus notes, cool metallic and chlorine nuances, seafood broth, and peat are all clearly defined. The rough barley note from the aroma is now a deep umami flavor in the mouth. The concentrated feel and chewy texture were impressive, while the dry yet not overly sweet or sour taste with a clear brininess was very good. Though it feels like the young, strong aromas are forcefully combined in this short-matured cask strength Islay malt, there is a certain sense of unity. I imagine it was quite rough when first bottled, but after over 20 years, the roughness has mellowed slightly. It is peaty but clear and clean, fitting the image of a cool beauty perfectly. Opportunities to drink short-matured Port Ellen have become rare, and it was a pleasure to taste it again, especially as it was delicious and very satisfying. #Port Ellen (PORT ELLEN)
