Clyde 1981-2001 Dun Eideann
Bottle #カリラ(CAOL ILA)
I felt that the peat flavor in the taste was surprisingly mellow.
Clyde CAOL ILA 1981-2001 Dun Eideann 43%
The aroma is gently floral, with lemon and green apple candy, white flowers, a pleasant grainy note, syrup, and strong peat without harshness.
When drinking it, the mouthfeel is smooth with a texture that seems to sink into the tongue, slightly chewy, with refreshing citrus notes, a pleasant balance of sweetness and acidity, and the umami of grain. The peat has a strong presence but surprisingly does not linger.
[Good/Very Good]
Dun Eideann bottled this Clyde 1981 in 2001, approximately 20 years of aging.
As it is a slightly old whisky with some water added, it has strong peat but also a gentle aroma of fruit, floral notes, and grain.
I felt that the aroma had a well-balanced expression of fruit, floral notes, and grain without being too strongly influenced by the bourbon cask.
When drinking it, it is somewhat gentle but has a slightly moist texture that seems to sink into the tongue with some chewiness.
The balance of sweetness and acidity was good, and I could also feel the umami of grain. However, what was impressive was that despite having a strong peat presence, the peat flavor surprisingly did not linger in the aftertaste.
Generally, peat tends to mellow over time in casks or bottles. However, this bottle had a fairly strong peaty aroma but ended with a sudden and smooth finish, which was an interesting sensation.
