New Release: GlenSpey 1981 32 Year Old The Whisky Agency with ARen Trading
Bottle #グレンスペイ(GLENSPEY)
As a long-aged minor distillery malt from The Whisky Agency, this was somewhat of an unexpected profile.
GlenSpey GLENSPEY 1981-2013 32 Year Old THE WHISKY AGENCY with ARen Trading, 50.9% ABV, one of 203 bottles, Refill Hogshead
The aroma is fruity but with a slightly oily texture, featuring rustic barley and plant notes, ripe oranges, black tea, vanilla, oak. On the palate, it is smooth and velvety with a rich sweetness of ripe oranges and honey, barley and faint oak tannins, with some viscosity and a long finish.
【Good/Very Good】
The new release from The Whisky Agency, GlenSpey 1981, a 32-year-old long-aged malt. This is a joint bottling with ARen Trading from Taiwan.
The aroma has nuances of fruits like oranges, vanilla, and black tea, offering some elegance but also a slightly oily texture and rather rustic barley and plant notes.
Upon tasting, it has a viscous texture with a rich sweetness of oranges and honey, while the oak tannins add depth. However, it carries a somewhat rustic character overall.
GlenSpey is not a major distillery, and when it comes to long-aged malts from The Whisky Agency, I often think of highly estery and fruity expressions that dominate the lineup. However, this bottle lacks a thick body but has a higher alcohol content and a somewhat rustic character, making it quite different from the typical profile I expected.
