Port Ellen PORT ELLEN 1982-2007 BBR #2470&2472 46%
The nose features sherry, plum jam, Gorgonzola cheese, orange with chocolate coating, dashi soy sauce, leather, and a strong peat note with iodine. The palate is very smooth with viscosity, sweet berry jam flavors, gentle tannins that deepen the taste, slight bitterness, smoky charcoal and peat with iodine notes, rich umami flavors, and a warm, long-lasting finish.
【Very Good】
This is a diluted bottling of Port Ellen 1982, bottled by BBR in 2007 after approximately 25 years of aging. It's a rich sherry cask bottling with minimal sulfur notes, strongly featuring cheese-like characteristics reminiscent of Gorgonzola alongside red jam and chocolate. The leather notes and pronounced peat with iodine are also prominent.
Upon tasting, it has a silky smooth mouthfeel with intense jam-like sweetness and good tannins, while the peat is strongly felt. The bottle has a rich umami profile and a warm, fireplace-like warmth with a full-bodied structure and a long, luxurious finish.
Compared to recent bottlings, it reminded me of the Chisel Label Port Ellen bottled by Shin'noya, which had a similar impression.
