Clyde CAOL ILA 1982-2009 BBR for La Maison du Whisky #6502 58.4%
The aroma features concentrated citrus, marmalade, and a heavy, strong peat with hints of tar, along with subtle saltiness, metal, naphthalene, and a slightly damp, rounded malt character. Upon tasting, it begins with a smooth mouthfeel that expands into rich, concentrated citrus, a chewy texture, the sweetness of jam, and savory umami from seafood stock combined with the malt's flavor. It also has a slightly earthy, heavy peatiness with tar notes, offering a rich and long-lasting finish.
【Very Good】
This is the 1982 Clyde bottled by BBR in 2009 for La Maison du Whisky in France.
The aroma offers concentrated citrusy fruitiness, a heavy peat with tar-like qualities, a gentle and slightly damp malt character, as well as subtle saltiness and metallic notes reminiscent of Ardbeg.
Upon tasting, it expands into a richly aromatic profile with an impressive sense of concentration and a chewy texture. The peatiness, accompanied by tar, is strong and assertive.
It has a rich sweetness with the savory umami of seafood stock, typical of Islay malts, and the malt's flavor, which left me impressed. It also carries an earthy nuance that I often associate with great Islay malts, maintaining a rich and heavy character with a long-lasting finish.
I remember purchasing this at the time of its release and enjoying two bottles at home. However, upon tasting it again recently, I found it even more delicious than my previous memory of the bottle, possibly due to bottle aging.
