The barley notes were gentle, which might suggest some maturity, but overall it felt simple and monotonous. However, the alcohol strength was lower than expected, resulting in a smooth body. It's drinkable without any off-putting flavors and isn't disliked, but it wasn't particularly interesting. It seems the cask was heavily used, with little influence from the barrel, only a reduction in alcohol strength. As a single malt, this type of cask is rarely bottled, but I suspect many such casks are used for blending. Even with minor off-flavors or flaws, the single malts—especially single cask bottlings—we consume are likely the strongest, most matured, and distinctive selections from the overall cask inventory.
