Bottle #ベンリネス(BENRINNES) #考えたこと
Despite the specs, there was little aging character, with a plain and straightforward aroma and flavor.
Benrinnes 1984-2012 28 Year Old Svensk Whiskyformedling at 47.0% ABV
The aroma featured fresh grass, gentle barley, white flowers, and a plain profile. Upon drinking, it started with a smooth mouthfeel before turning slightly spicy, citrusy, and mildly sweet, with subtle barley umami. The flavor was plain, with a light-bodied texture.

This bottling by the Swedish bottler Svensk Whiskyformedling features Benrinnes 1984, aged for 28 years. Although bottled in 2012, it recently entered Japan. Despite the 28-year aging, there was little nuance of maturity in either aroma or flavor, making it very fresh and plain. The barley notes were gentle, which might suggest some maturity, but overall it felt simple and monotonous. However, the alcohol strength was lower than expected, resulting in a smooth body.
It's drinkable without any off-putting flavors and isn't disliked, but it wasn't particularly interesting. It seems the cask was heavily used, with little influence from the barrel, only a reduction in alcohol strength. As a single malt, this type of cask is rarely bottled, but I suspect many such casks are used for blending. Even with minor off-flavors or flaws, the single malts—especially single cask bottlings—we consume are likely the strongest, most matured, and distinctive selections from the overall cask inventory.
