Bottle #余市(YOICHI)
As expected, this was a thick-bodied Yoichi. Yoichi YOICHI 1985-2007 21yo WHISKY Magazine Editor's choice for Whisky Live! in Tokyo 2007 #250192 50.7% one of 242 bottles The aroma features roasted bamboo shoots, cedar woodiness, vanilla, apricot tea, cinnamon, toasted barley, nuts, and richness. On the palate, it begins with a smooth mouthfeel, expanding into a rich sweetness of apricot jam, pronounced woodiness, umami from barley and seafood, dashi (Japanese stock) umami, richness, a thick body, and a long finish. 【Very Good】 This Yoichi 1985 was bottled for Whisky Live Tokyo 2007. From the aroma, I detected the typical Yoichi notes—woodiness reminiscent of roasted bamboo and cedar—as well as rich, heated fruits. As expected from the aroma, the palate delivers a rich sweetness of heated fruits and their sugary notes, along with pronounced umami elements. While the woodiness is strong, it was notably less bitter than anticipated, which left a very favorable impression. It has a thick body and a long finish. While it may be slightly tiring to drink personally, it was an extremely satisfying malt in terms of overall satisfaction per glass.
