Ardmore 1986-1999 12yo Official 100th Anniversary 40%
Bottle #アードモア(ARDMORE)
Centenary bottling. A flavorful old bottle.
Ardmore ARDMORE 1986-1999 12yo OB 100th Anniversary 40%
The aroma has a pleasant old feel, with wilted orange, marmalade, caramel, matured barley, dried shiitake mushrooms and katsuobushi dashi, seaweed, and an earthy, damp leaf mold-like scent. The peat is strong.
When drinking, it starts with a smooth mouthfeel and spreads across the tongue like a textured sensation. There is wilted orange, rich barley umami, dashi, leaf mold, and peaty tar-like notes. The body is light but the finish is long.
【Good/Very Good】
This is a centenary bottling, commemorating the distillery's 100th anniversary in 1999. The Ardmore 1986, aged for 12 years.
While the aroma has a slightly twisted nuance, it also has a pleasant old feel. The distinct earthy leaf mold scent and the Highland-like peatiness were impressive.
When drinking, the old feel is more restrained than the aroma, but there's a well-rounded malt texture that lingers on the tongue. The rich barley flavor was also a good impression. Additionally, the earthiness and peatiness are as strong as in the aroma.
Perhaps due to its 40% ABV, it felt more old than the actual bottling period of about 17 years. The experience was like it had aged for around 30 years.
It is flavorful and delicious, but if it were 46%, there might have been a bit of a lack of body, but the depth of flavor would likely be more profound.
Of course, that's just a wishful thought...
