Dalwhinnie DALWHINNIE 1987-2012 25yo OB LIMITED EDITION 52.1%
One of 5358 bottles, American Oak Casks
The aroma combines elegance with rustic charm: bright orange notes, a robust yet gentle barley character, black tea, cinnamon, fine oak, a touch of tree resin, and a rich, luscious sweetness reminiscent of apricot jam and honey. The palate unfolds smoothly despite the high alcohol content, with a refined balance of ripe fruitiness, subtle oak, and a clean, malty depth. The finish is rich, long-lasting, and satisfying.

Bottled in 2012 as an official limited edition, this Dalwhinnie is a 25-year-old expression from a 1987 distillation. The nose combines elegance with rustic charm, featuring a concentrated fruitiness centered on mature citrus, a refined yet strong barley character, and a well-balanced oak presence. This is a high-level, balanced whisky in the style of Diageo's special releases—sophisticated and satisfying to drink. Though labeled as American Oak Casks, it exhibits a natural, pleasant maturation with the cask's qualities clearly evident. While the 1980s were a difficult time for whisky, with limited access to quality casks, exceptional casks like this occasionally emerge. Such high-quality casks often appear in official limited editions rather than independent bottlings. Though older whiskies are often praised, I believe quality expressions like this exist in every era.
