It lived up to expectations, being delicious. Laphroaig LAPHROAIG 1988-2008 20yo The Syndicate's 53.1% The aroma has powdery, concentrated citrus notes, orange oil, a strong dry maltiness, American coffee, seaweed, smokiness, and a pronounced peat with some iodine. On the palate, it has a powerful attack with a textured mouthfeel that provides chewiness, concentrated citrus sweetness and acidity, rich umami, a slightly seductive floral note, a strong oak finish that tightens things up, and a strong but pleasant peat character with a long finish. 【Very Good】 This is Laphroaig 1988 matured for 20 years, bottled by Bruichladdich. The cask is believed to be from Murray McDavid. This group does not appear to be related to the Blended Whisky Syndicate 58/6. The back label lists ten names, presumably members, but all are unfamiliar to me. I may simply be uninformed. Regarding the contents, it met expectations for a high-quality 1988 vintage, which is often associated with delicious whiskies. It had the expected powdery, concentrated citrus notes and a textured mouthfeel with chewiness, which slowly seeped in due to aging, accompanied by malty umami. It has a peat character with noticeable iodine, but it doesn't lose out to the fruitiness and has a seductive quality. It was very delicious. Notably, there are several versions of Laphroaig 1988 from The Syndicate, each with different aging periods. Before this bottle, I had tasted the 12-year-old version. I regret not being able to record tasting notes for that, but personally, I preferred the 12-year-old for its more restrained oak nuances. The time since bottling may have also contributed to this. Nevertheless, both are excellent Laphroaigs, and I look forward to encountering other aging periods. #Lagavulin (LAGAVULIN)
