This is a malt that conveys the potential of the spirit, with an impression that it has reached its drinking prime. TALISKER 1989-1999 OB for FRIENDS OF THE CLASSIC MALTS at 59.3% one of 7000 bottles The aroma features strong peat with notes of apricot jam, tree sap, iodine, nuts, and a rich, matured barley character. On the palate, it is spicy and tingling, with a delicious barley flavor that becomes more pronounced with each bite. It offers briny and seafood dashi notes, a pleasant sweetness, agreeable oak, powerful peat, slight oiliness, and a long finish. 【Good/Very Good】 This is Talisker 1989 bottled for Friends of the Classic Malts in 1999. It appears to be a limited-edition high-proof bottling by Diageo. Aged for 10 years at cask strength, with a plain barrel and a spicy house style that seems ready to explode. However, after 15 years of aging post-bottling, it has mellowed slightly and begun to show a subtle viscosity. The matured barley notes now have a satisfying bite, with powerful peat and seafood nuances delivering a punchy deliciousness. There's no sign of it drying out anytime soon, and it seems like it will only improve further in another 10 years. At that time, I'm curious to see how the softened texture from aging and the tingling spiciness will come together.
