New Release: Benrinnes 1989 25 Year THE SCOTCH MALT WHISKY SOCIETY '36.84'
Bottle #ベンリネス(BENRINNES)
The firm-bodied flavor was impressive, but the refreshing quality in the aroma stood out.
Benrinnes BENRINNES 1990 25yo THE SCOTCH MALT WHISKY SOCIETY '36.84' 51.0% one of 232 bottles, Refill Bourbon Hogshead
The aroma featured citrus and floral notes of white flowers, a strong yet pleasant malty character, and a solid ginger touch. Upon tasting, it was unexpectedly smooth but gradually stimulating with citrus, deep malty richness and umami, a tightening pleasant oakiness, faint tannins, gentle acidity, and a clean finish.
[Good/Very Good]
The SMWS number 36.84 corresponds to a new release of Benrinnes from 1989, aged for 25 years. The aroma had floral elements and a refreshing citrus nuance, along with a malty character reminiscent of ginger. Despite these characteristics, it felt like the 25-year maturation wasn't immediately apparent. However, upon tasting, it revealed a robust malt with a solid base of barley umami and pleasant oak nuances. The malty richness and oakiness were impressive, with a firm flavor that didn't leave any unpleasant lingering notes, maintaining cleanliness all the way to the finish.
I felt there was a gap between the aroma and flavor, but such unexpected characteristics are enjoyable and provide good experience. I took a break and tasted it twice, but the impression remained consistent. Moving forward, I'll verify if these elements align further.
