Clynelish CLYNELISH 1990-1998 8yo SAMAROLI #1015/1016 59%
one of 492 bottles
The aroma features fresh lemon, youthful maltiness with a sense of young leaves and plants, and a faint waxy note. On the palate, it offers spicy, floral notes reminiscent of violets, citrusy and savory maltiness, a light sweetness, crisp finish, and a plain cask character with a clean aftertaste. [Good/Very Good]
Samaroli bottled this Clynelish in 1998, an 8-year-old cask strength expression. Due to the short aging period and a less dominant cask influence, fresh citrus notes and youthful, sharp malt characteristics are prominent. Subtle Clynelish-like viscosity and waxy, oily nuances linger faintly. Despite being over 20 years since bottling, it shows minimal aged character with only a slight refined nuance, maintaining its freshness. This bottle strongly conveys the original youthful spirit profile typical of rare malts like Green Cadenhead. Impressively, it exhibits a faint perfume-like element that emerges through aging—a flavor not present in previous tastings. Though this nuance disappears quickly, it was fascinating to experience such a characteristic emerging in a whisky that typically resists aging development.
