GlenGoyne GLENGOYNE 1990-2010 19yo OB for THE WHISKY EXCHANGE #2848 59.6% One of 201 bottles, Bourbon Hogshead The aroma features ripe oranges, apricot jam, vanilla, coconut, concentrated black tea, pronounced woodiness, tree sap, good cereal notes. On the palate it expands with a rich, spicy character, slightly viscous, with intense sweetness reminiscent of orange marmalade, apricot jam, and honey. It has a full-bodied texture with subtle woody characteristics and faint tannins, leaving a long, sweetly spicy finish. 【Good/Very Good】 This is an official bottling of GlenGoyne 1990, matured for 19 years, released for The Whisky Exchange. Though I had previously associated GlenGoyne with the Edrington group and thus a sherry-oriented profile, this is a single cask from a Bourbon Hogshead. The aroma suggested the woody characteristics typical of a well-expressed bourbon cask, with strong notes of orange, vanilla, and coconut. I also detected hints of tree sap, jam, and a matured tea-like character. On the palate, it delivered a thick, spicy attack typical of high proof whisky, with noticeable viscosity. The rich, jammy sweetness with honey notes was impressive, though the faint woody character slightly detracted from the experience. This duality might be inherent to the nature of bourbon casks that produce intense flavors. It was a full-bodied GlenGoyne with a clear bourbon cask character. This bottle was kindly provided by Main Malt in Kobe, Sanmachi.
