I drank it for the first time in five years, but as expected, it's very fruity with a full body and is good. Bowmore BOWMORE 1990-2010 20yo DOUGLAS LAING Old Malt Cask for JIS 'SPECIAL CASK STRENGTH' #6193 52.0% The aroma is strong and fruity, with guava, passion fruit, ripe grapefruit, sea breeze, pronounced barley, and a dominant smoky peat. When drinking, the same strong tropical fruits and citrus notes are present, with a sweet juice-like flavor, briny characteristics, barley umami, and a strong smoky peat that lingers long. [Good/Very Good] This is a Bowmore 1990, 20-year-old cask strength release by Douglas Laing Old Malt Cask for JIS, bottled in 2010. At the time, I remember that several high-proof OMC bottles with red big stamps were released for JIS. From the start, the aroma explodes with tropical fruits, particularly strong Bowmore-like fruitiness from guava, passion fruit, and grapefruit. Although the fruits are prominent, there's a slight delay in the barley notes and strong Islay peat. When drinking, the same strong fruits with juice-like sweetness are present, supported by barley and peat notes, making it very delicious. Bowmore has many excellent bottles with standout fruits, but due to the strong fruitiness, I rated it as Good/Very Good rather than Very Good. This bottle was released in 2010, the same year the highly discussed 1993 Bowmore was released. During that time, many fruity releases from German bottlers like the 1993 Bowmore came out one after another. Even then, it was very fruity and delicious, so I bought a bottle for myself at the time. Drinking it again now, it feels very fruity and similar to the OMC for Helmsdale 1990-2012, 21-year-old release. Thinking that such a bottle sold for around ¥10,000 five years ago without being instantly sold out, it's hard not to feel the significant rise in prices for 90s Islay malts. #Bowmore (BOWMORE)
