Home Tasting: Glenfarclas 1990-2015 24 Year Old Official Whisky Hoop #7089
Bottle #グレンファークラス(GLENFARCLAS)
Merry Christmas! Indeed, this is the first masterpiece for me in the Hoop series.
Glenfarclas GLENFARCLAS 1990-2015 24yo OB for THE WHISKY HOOP #7089 51.5%
One of 284 bottles
・Aroma:
The aroma is a comforting sherry note that wraps around everything, mixed jam of berries, plums, and apricots, caramel and black sugar, American coffee, strong chocolate cake, faint balsamic vinegar, herbal liqueur, slightly charred good barley note, solid woodiness, leaf mold, faint leather, diverse and rich.
・Flavor:
From a smooth mouthfeel, it expands powerfully and aromatically, enveloping sherry notes, plum and berry jams, grapes with skins, rich jam-like sweetness balanced by woodiness, tannins, and herbal liqueur bitterness, with a refined barley umami. Complex and rich.
・Aftertaste:
The lingering sweet taste adheres to the tongue, accompanied by a pleasant bitterness that lasts long.
・Dilution:
The aroma and balance remain intact even with a small amount of water, becoming smoother.
・Overall Review:
The sherry is not dominant but thoroughly covers everything. As mentioned above, other elements also assert themselves strongly.
Up to the long aftertaste's end, there is no unpleasant sherry aspect recently. Despite its intense flavor, it's easy to drink one after another.
Its stability against dilution was also exceptional.
The sherry is well-balanced, powerfully complex, and rich. It's a balanced Farclas.
【Very Good】
Released by Whisky Hoop in late November 2015, this is an official Glenfarclas 1990 bottling with approximately 25 years of aging.
The official Christmas Malt label design by Mr. Shunji Yoshimura is indeed excellent.
Although I thoroughly tasted and published it when I drank it in Ginza, I also carefully enjoyed it at home over a year.
At the time of this bottle's release, there were several good sherry cask Farclas bottles, but this one stood out for its lack of unpleasant sherry notes and the balanced aroma where sherry is not dominant.
Thanks to the gentle sherry wrapping everything, it's a malt that offers diverse elements with aging character in both aroma and flavor, making the tasting enjoyable.
Drinking it at home lets its features become more pronounced over time, allowing a detailed enjoyment of its diverse and complex aroma and flavor.
Despite its rich taste, it's hard to get tired of drinking it one after another. Since I intended to savor it over time after opening, resisting the urge to drink was difficult.
Before last year's release, Mr. George Grant also visited Japan, adding a special sentiment to this malt.
And above all, the flavor and label are perfectly suited for Christmas.
The 2005 vintage Christmas label this year also featured a bottle overflowing with the charm of young sherry casks, offering different charms.
Drinking them together brought happiness, and tonight I'll become a slightly drunk Santa.
Wishing you all a wonderful Christmas.
