Bottle #グレンファークラス(GLENFARCLAS)
A farclas that delivers both the satisfaction of sherry and the complexity from the original spirit.
Glenfarclas GLENFARCLAS 1990-2015 Own Bottling (OB) for THE WHISKY HOOP #7089 51.5%
The nose offers a balanced sherry character, gentle berry notes and apricot tea, black sugar, American coffee, chocolate cake, a touch of mint, pronounced barley notes, herbs, and a slightly loamy earthiness with rich undertones.
On the palate, it begins with a smooth mouthfeel that expands into a full-bodied sherry character with grape notes. It evokes the sweetness of jam and herbal liqueur, with a pleasant tannic finish, barley umami, and a well-balanced structure. The lingering aftertaste clings to the tongue for an extended duration.
[Very Good]
Released by The Whisky Hoop in late November, this official Glenfarclas 1990 is approximately 25 years old. The label, designed by Yoshimura Shunji, follows the specifications of an official Christmas Malt, creating high anticipation. The sherry character is well-expressed in both aroma and flavor, with elements like jam, black sugar, herbs, earthiness, and mint. It also exhibits a refined barley character.
When tasted, it offers a broad expansion from the initial mouthfeel, with complex flavors unfolding sequentially. The balance of sweetness, tannins, and barley umami is excellent, culminating in a long, clinging finish. Despite its intensity, there are no off-putting elements.
While it lacks a standout, easily recognizable character, it is an exceptionally delicious sherry cask malt. Recent releases often emphasize either short-aged young barley or heavily flavored sherry, but this one naturally blends both elements, offering a rare drinking experience. It also carries nuances reminiscent of chocolate cake, making it an ideal choice for Christmas this year.
As this bottling is primarily managed by friends I have a good relationship with, we aim to maintain an evaluation that's not overly generous. However, personally, I consider this the first masterpiece among all bottles distributed by TWH this year.
