Home Tasting: Pulteney 1990 23yo Cadenhead Small Batch for Campbeltown Loch
Bottle #プルトニー(PULTENEY)
This was exactly the flavor profile of a delicious Pulteney. Indeed, it's a distillery where the official bottlings and independent bottlers are closely related.
Pulteney PULTENEY 1990-2013 23yo Cadenhead Small Batch for Campbeltoun Loch 55.8%
one of 228 bottles, Bourbon Barrel
・Aroma:
Soft lemon pie, strong orange oil, premium honey, vanilla cream, coconut milk and cinnamon, faint ginger, a solid malty note with savory richness.
・Flavor~Finish:
Starting with a viscous mouthfeel, it expands powerfully and spicily. Dry orange, marmalade, lemon pie, pineapple, coconut, vanilla, a rich sweetness of thick honey, long-lasting briny notes, a concentrated umami from matured malt with some chewiness, deepened by tree sap and rich oak. Oily and long finish.
・Water Addition:
Does not break down even with generous water addition.
・Overall Review:
Pulteney from bourbon casks, often released officially. The nuances typical of Pulteney in bourbon barrels are well-developed. Although it's a bottler's malt, there was no sense of discrepancy from an official bottling. As expected, this bottle delivers rich flavor without tiring the palate, making it a wonderful malt that's enjoyable in quantity.
【Good/Very Good】
The second home of mine, Campbelltown Loch at Yurakucho, bottled this Pulteney 1990, 23-year-old Cadenhead Small Batch series. Some time has already passed since bottling, and this is the second bottle I've had at home, nearing its end. However, I suddenly realized it wasn't posted here. I think I forgot because I was confident in writing a satisfactory tasting note after enjoying it multiple times at the bar. So, I decided to write this as a home tasting review again. Although I wrote various details, ultimately the basics remain as previously described, and my current understanding hasn't changed. By carefully re-tasting it, I confirmed this. Indeed, in terms of the stability of new releases, Pulteney stands out.
