A very well-balanced malt, I decided to bottle it for further appreciation. Craigellachie CRAIGELLACHIE 1990 24yo THE SCOTCH MALT WHISKY SOCIETY '44.65' 52.4% One of 294 bottles, Refill Bourbon Hogshead The aroma is mellow with a slight heaviness, featuring citrus and green apple notes, slightly moist and ripe persimmon, vanilla, honey, a matured strong barley character, with some waxiness and oiliness, along with plain cask characteristics. On the palate, it has a silky texture, waxiness, white grape, citrus and honey sweetness with acidity, a solid barley umami, and a long oily, barley-rich finish. 【Very Good】 This is the new release from SMWS, code 44 = Craigellachie, a 1990 vintage matured for 24 years. (※SMWS Distillery Code List here) Although the maturation period of 24 years is moderate, it seems to have been matured in a second-fill bourbon hogshead based on the cask characteristics. As a result, it retains some freshness while clearly exhibiting matured barley notes. Of course, there is no trace of under-ripeness. The persimmon-like nuances in the aroma and slightly waxy, oily characteristics were particularly impressive. When tasted, it has a viscous texture, and I detected slightly different white grape-like notes compared to the aroma. The balance of sweetness and acidity is good, with a pleasant barley umami, leading to a long, enjoyable finish without any off-putting body. The balance of cask character, fruitiness, and barley notes is well executed, with no over-ripeness. It left a very favorable impression. Although I enjoyed it three times and each time found it delicious, I felt a slightly different image each time, suggesting that there might be interesting changes in the bottle over time after opening or even unopened. Bottles from this range of the Society often feel reasonably priced compared to their specifications, so I promptly purchased it and plan to savor it at home carefully. #Craigellachie (CRAIGELLACHIE)
