New Release: Glenfarclas 1991-2014 22 Year Old Official Family Cask for The Whisky Shop #5691
Bottle #グレンファークラス(GLENFARCLAS)
I thought it resembled that bottle, and indeed it had a similar cask number.
Glenfarclas GLENFARCLAS 1991-2014 22yo OB THE FAMILY CASKS for THE Whisky Shop #5691 53.8%
One of 604 bottles
The aroma features good sherry, dried fruits and jams including berries and dates, chocolate, black sugar, toasted barley, herbs, clove, and richness.
On the palate, it's not overly strong but expands powerfully with a strong sweetness of dried fruits and jams, gentle woodiness, balanced tannins, good bitterness from herbal liqueur, a mild acidity, and a rich, long finish.
[Good/Very Good]
This is the Glenfarclas Family Cask #5691 bottled by 'THE Whisky Shop' located in Dufftown.
Although not explicitly stated, the quantity and flavor suggest it's a sherry cask.
Despite being a recent cask, it has an excellent sherry character with minimal off-notes and a diverse range of aromas typical of a well-aged sherry cask, as described above.
My first impression was that it resembled the one bottled for Shin'noya of the same vintage, but upon checking later, I found that the Shin'noya version was #5693, nearly adjacent casks.
This one has aged about three years longer but lacks the bitterness or sulfur notes sometimes found in such casks, offering a rich yet smooth classic Glenfarclas sherry cask profile. I found it very enjoyable.
I recently had the opportunity to try another Glenfarclas 1990, which will be bottled for Whisky Foup, and it also came from a good cask.
Indeed, Glenfarclas seems to have many high-quality casks suitable for single cask releases.
