Bottle #グレンスコシア(GLENSCOTIA)
A well-crafted Sherry-finished Scotch.
Glen Scotia GLENSCOTIA 1991-2015 WEMYSS MALTS 46%
One of 431 bottles, HOGSHEAD
The aroma features gentle Sherry notes, baked apple, dried apricot, chocolate, a subtle graininess, brandy cake, moderate woodiness, and a richly balanced profile.
On the palate, it offers a smooth mouthfeel with pronounced sweetness of heated apple, woodiness that tightens the flavor, gentle tannins, cinnamon, and a well-balanced finish of sweetness and bitterness.
【Good/Very Good】
Newly released from Wemyss, Glen Scotia 1991 is approximately 24 years old.
This is a standard 46% ABV release.
The malt is enveloped by gentle Sherry characteristics, with a pleasant array of Sherry nuances and subtle graininess. Aromatic notes reminiscent of baked apple and brandy cake were particularly distinctive.
The balance between sweetness and bitterness in the flavor was excellent, and while it offered depth and richness, its drinkability also stood out. I believe this is largely due to the exquisite dilution at 46%.
In my view, Wemyss has an image as a 'magician of 46% dilution.'
However, I think the slightly high price, focus on diluted releases by bottlers, and label design (which, in my opinion, doesn't appeal to male buyers) might be reasons why its evaluation isn't as high. Nonetheless, I feel Wemyss has remarkable capabilities.
