Glen Spey GLRNSPEY 1991-2015 BBR for La Maison du Whisky #800331 53.9%
The aroma has a rustic, pleasant barley note, gentle vanilla, a touch of cinnamon, plain cask character, some young leaves and chestnut, and a faint oak.
When drinking, it has a slightly spicy texture with some bite, the barley's umami is well-presented, heated apple, a gentle honey-like sweetness with body, pleasant acidity, cinnamon, soft oak, and an oily yet unobtrusive finish.
[Good/Very Good]
Recently bottled by BBR for La Maison du Whisky in France, this Glen Spey 1991 is approximately 24 years old.
A malt with a rustic barley character upfront, it doesn't have standout aging or fruity notes, but overall, the aging is felt in its fullness and non-irritating texture.
It has a concentrated feel with a chewy mouthfeel, and the sweet, bodied sweetness was a pleasant impression.
A plain, stress-free flavor that seems like it would be easy to drink at home without tiring of it.
While Glen Spey is undeniably a minor distillery, it lacks flavoring and doesn't lose its body or shift toward fruity notes; instead, it has an orthodox taste profile.
