Glenfarclas GLENFARCLAS 1991-2016 25yo Official Bottling for Shinanoya - The 10th Anniversary of Private Bottling #5695 56.9% Sherry Butt
Bottle #グレンファークラス(GLENFARCLAS)
It was an excellent Sherry cask, both in price and content. Glenfarclas GLENFARCLAS 1991-2016 25yo Official Bottling for Shinanoya - The 10th Anniversary of Private Bottling #5695 56.9% Sherry Butt The aroma expands richly with notes of concentrated Sherry, stemmed raisins, prunes, bitter chocolate, faint balsamic vinegar and caramel sauce, herbal liqueur, and toasted barley. On the palate, it unfolds with a rich sweetness of raisins and berry jam, a full-bodied texture, a tightening woodiness, and a slightly reductive tannic finish with herbal undertones, damp earth, and a deep umami from toasted barley. The aftertaste lingers with balanced sweetness and tannins. [Very Good] This Glenfarclas 1991 was released as the first commemorative bottle for Shinanoya's 10th anniversary of private bottling. It came out shortly after several excellent Sherry casks of Farclas were released at year-end, which made me think they must have had a lot of confidence. True to form, it did not disappoint expectations. Considering its specifications, the price is quite reasonable, making it an excellent value proposition (CP). It has a diverse range of aromas typical of a good Spanish oak Sherry cask, with concentrated dark fruits, chocolate, herbs, and a nice woody character. Accompanied by a jammy sweetness with some robust tannins, the earthy notes added depth to its flavor profile. While the tannic finish is somewhat strong, it remains within acceptable limits and has potential to mellow further with time, adding more depth. It is already well-finished and delicious at this stage, but the cask character suggests there's room for further development, making me look forward to its future evolution. Despite planning not to buy any more Sherry casks due to the tough year-end payments, I ended up purchasing multiple bottles right away. (Laugh) This is a high-quality, orthodox Farclas that's too good to resist given its value proposition. I'm very much looking forward to the subsequent releases of the anniversary bottles in the future.
