Teeling TEELING 1991 23yo for THREE RIVERS #6821 54%
one of 250 bottles, Sherry Hogshead
The aroma features a pleasant Sherry, fresh grape juice, grape skins, some chemical nuances and tropical notes like pineapple, clove, oil, and a faint cereal note, with richness.
On the palate, it starts with a smooth mouthfeel expanding into rich flavors. Similar to the aroma, it includes grape juice with skins, chemical elements accompanying pineapple and mango, a strong tropical fruit character, intense sweetness, good tannins, smooth and oily. The body is medium with a long finish.
[Good/Very Good, Interesting]
This Teeling 1991 was bottled for THREE RIVERS, a recent release with 23 years of aging. While the aroma and flavor are intensely fruity, I clearly sensed the fresh grape juice characteristic from a good Sherry cask, alongside strong tropical fruit elements with Teeling's typical chemical nuances. The oily Irish character and cereal notes are also present. In short, it feels like a 'Good Sherry Cask Teeling.' This bottle is my first experience of such a well-balanced combination of strong Sherry character and full-on tropical notes. I believe keeping it together would create a more cohesive and impressive finish.
Of course, THREE RIVERS has made an excellent choice.
