Laphroaig LAPHROAIG 1993-2005 12yo MURRAY MCDAVID 46%, one of 1200 bottles, bourbon casks/Rioja casks
Bottle #ラフロイグ(LAPHROAIG)
The effect of the Rioja finish is unclear, but it was an exceptionally fruity Laphroaig. Laphroaig LAPHROAIG 1993-2005 12yo MURRAY MCDAVID 46%, one of 1200 bottles, bourbon casks/Rioja casks The aroma is lavish and strong, with concentrated grapefruit citrus, pronounced peat smoke, prosciutto melon, powdered cheese. Upon drinking, it has a concentrated, chewy texture with grapefruit and powdered cheese umami, slightly sticky rich sweetness. The peat smoke is present but integrated, with a long finish. [Very Good] Murray McDavid bottled this diluted Laphroaig 1993, aged for 12 years in 2005. It is noted that after bourbon casks, it was matured in Rioja wine made with Tempranillo. The aroma is lavish and fruity, embodying a concentrated Laphroaig with nuances of grapefruit, powdered cheese, and prosciutto melon, with peat also present. When drinking, it has the expected powdery concentration, giving a clear sense of chewiness. There is also a sticky rich sweetness, with an integrated harmony of fruit and peat, as well as intense cheese-like umami. It was a delicious Laphroaig. If blind tasted, it would be mistaken for a vintage from around 1980. It is a typical fruity type of Laphroaig, and if it were from the 1990s, one would certainly agree that it's a 1993 bottling after some time had passed. I could not understand the effect of the cask finish, but if I must say, it might be related to the presence of a slightly mellowed sweetness compared to other bottlers' fruity 1993 Laphroaigs. In any case, it was my favorite type of Laphroaig.
