One of 271 bottles, REFILL HOGSHEAD
The aroma features grapefruit zest, vanilla, white wine, cucumber melon, and a strong peat and smoke character with some seaweed-like iodine notes, though not overpowering. The palate is soft and smooth with grapefruit zest, a concentrated powdery texture, pleasant citrus sweetness and acidity, barley umami, nuts, white miso, and a peaty finish.
【Good/Very Good】
This is Laphroaig 1993, aged for 18 years from Douglas Laing's OMC collection. While Laphroaig bottlings from 1993 typically have a strong fruity character and lighter body, this bottle is particularly representative of the classic Laphroaig profile due to its ABV below 50%.
The notes of grapefruit zest, white wine, cucumber melon, and the concentrated powdery texture are all characteristic of this vintage Laphroaig. Compared to official releases, the iodine character is slightly weaker but still has a pronounced peatiness. While lacking in intensity, it was a very pleasant fruity Laphroaig.
Most OMC 1993 Laphroaigs share similar characteristics, and I have yet to encounter a dud.
