【Good/Very Good】
This is a single cask Mortlach 1995, bottled last year by Cooper's Choice. The nose is reminiscent of the often elegant bourbon cask bottlings from the 90s, with notes of vanilla, orange, green apple, and a subtle peachiness, along with well-balanced oak nuances. On the palate, it has a gentle, water-like mouthfeel with a smooth, rounded citrus sweetness that is pleasant, along with barley umami. The absence of any woody astringency from the oak is particularly notable, as it finishes cleanly. Such elegant bourbon cask-style malts have become more common recently and are consistently delicious, but many tend to have some woody astringency in the finish. Bottles without this characteristic truly stand out with their pleasant drinking experience.
