New Release: Ben Nevis 1995 19 Year Old Maltman #497
Bottle #ベンネヴィス(BENNEVIS)
It seems Ben Nevis is no longer a difficult distillery for me.
Ben Nevis 1995-2015 19 Year Old Maltman #497 53.1%
One of 544 bottles, Sherry Butt
The aroma features peaches, ripe apricot jam, plums, grainy maltiness, slightly oily and rich. Upon drinking, it starts with a smooth mouthfeel expanding into a fragrant profile of plums and peaches, caramelized nuts, intense sweetness, faint papery notes, oily richness, and deliciousness. [Good/Very Good]
This is a new release from Maltman: Ben Nevis 1995, aged 19 years.
From the first aroma, the appealing ripe fruitiness of peaches and plums was clearly present. While it had the characteristic grainy notes and oily nuances of Ben Nevis, there was no unpleasant smell.
When drinking, the appealing fruitiness remained strong, just like the aroma, with oily richness. Although there are some papery elements, the fact that I only perceive them at this level suggests they are almost nonexistent now.
Perhaps due to becoming accustomed to Ben Nevis, some of the previously bothersome elements no longer bother me. However, this is not necessarily a bad thing, as I can confidently say this bottle was delicious.
Recently, I've been drinking several types of 90s Ben Nevis in Sherry casks, regardless of the official bottler. All of them have very appealing fruity characteristics, and the previously bothersome papery texture is not too noticeable, allowing me to enjoy them all.
Perhaps the era where Ben Nevis was one of the representative difficult distilleries, alongside Littlemill, is coming to an end.
