Although it has a short maturation period, it was extremely delicious.
Arran ISLE OF ARRAN 1995-2004 OB for PUB MAHOROBI 25th Anniversary #95/297 55.3%
one of 156 bottles, Sherry Hogshead
The aroma features mild sherry, plum and apricot jam, savory molasses, and a hint of hazelnut.
When drinking, it feels smoother and more refined than its alcohol content suggests, with flavors of plum, ripe orange, a rich sweetness, savory molasses, and a well-balanced taste that is pleasant to drink. [Good/Very Good]
Bottled by Pub Mahorobi in Matsumoto for their 25th anniversary, this Arran was matured for approximately 9 years from 1995 to 2004. The label notes that only 520 casks were produced in 1995, the year Arran began distillation. Despite its short maturation period as a cask strength whisky, the finish is wrapped in a gentle sherry cask character. The jammy fruitiness, assertive yet mellow savory molasses, and nutty nuances create a cohesive profile. The drinkability is exceptional, likely influenced by some aging post-bottling, but fundamentally due to the quality of the cask itself.
Compared to recent Arran releases, which often feature similar sherry casks with few standouts, this bottling presented a distinct aromatic direction. It is no surprise that Pub Mahorobi, with its long-standing connection to Scotland, was able to bottle such a remarkable cask.
