【Very Good】
New release from Wemyss, Bowmore 1995.
Although the bottler is known for adding water, this one was bottled at cask strength.
From the very first aroma, it is surprisingly fruity. The tropical fruit notes such as passion fruit, guava, mango, and grapefruit zest that one would expect from Bowmore are naturally and strongly present.
The typical Islay malt characteristics such as seafood dashi and strong peat are also clearly felt, with a subtle earthiness adding to its richness and complexity.
When tasted, it delivers the natural and strong fruity notes as expected, with a sticky texture, sweetness, umami, and the powerful strength of peat typical of Islay cask-strength whiskies.
There is also a slight resinous note, and although it gives a slightly tiring impression to drink, it seems to add thickness and richness to the aroma.
Without a doubt, this is a masterpiece among recent Bowmore releases.
I wanted to purchase it, but apparently only 12 bottles came into Japan, and it was quickly sold out even in exchanges.
It's true that good new releases are hard to come by.
Although I love Bowmore, perhaps due to the high standards it has set, I haven't encountered many surprisingly delicious new releases lately. Unconsciously, the excitement of drinking a new release had faded, but this bottle surprised me.
Occasionally encountering something like this brings back the excitement of trying future new releases again.
