TOMATIN TOMATIN 1995-2015 19yo OB for THE WHISKY HOOP #6711 60% One of 280 bottles, Refill Sherry Hogshead
Bottle #トマーティン(TOMATIN)
The aroma is elegant and refined, with a strong presence that evolves into a diverse array of fruits over time—peaches, pears, guava, vanilla, faint cream, fresh barley, and a pleasant oak note with a slightly cool, sophisticated character. The flavor is spicy and stimulating on the palate, more fruity than the aroma, with peaches, guava, pineapple, a hint of children's syrup medicine, sweet fruitiness balanced by acidity, a gentle barley note in the background, light tannins from oak that define the flavor, and a faint touch of tar. While the alcohol strength is high, the body lacks thickness. The aftertaste is clear and clean, though not particularly long. When diluted, the flavor remains clear and extended. Overall, it exhibits a fruity TOMATIN character with minimal chemical elements, offering an elegant and refined aroma. The fruits are prominent, while the barley notes remain in the background, giving a clean and drinkable profile despite its lack of body thickness. A very good malt with a pleasant mouthfeel. [Good/Very Good] This TOMATIN 1995, aged for 19 years, was released by THE WHISKY HOOP in October 2015. It appears to be selected from a cask that has been tasted among many official TOMATIN bottlings, showcasing a strong tropical fruitiness with characteristics reminiscent of the house style. Despite its official nature, it feels refined and free from roughness, with a complex aroma that offers diverse notes. I strongly perceive tropical elements like guava, and although it lacks roughness, the complexity of its aroma is impressive. Despite its high alcohol content and stimulating flavor, it seems like it would become even more enjoyable as it matures in the bottle, developing a smoother and creamier texture. Personally, I found that its body was not as strong for its high alcohol content, so I'm looking forward to seeing how it evolves with bottle aging.
