MORTLACH 1995-2015 WEMYSS MALTS 46%, one of 337 bottles, HOGSHEAD
Bottle #モートラック(MORTLACH)
This was a well-crafted MORTLACH in bourbon casks. MORTLACH 1995-2015 WEMYSS MALTS 46%, one of 337 bottles, HOGSHEAD The aroma features orange peel and vanilla, with a touch of apple and coconut, a moderate grainy note and ginger, along with honey and oil. On the palate, it has a smooth mouthfeel, orange oil, a rich honey-like sweetness, a balanced grainy character, and a subtle woody note that is tempered by oak, leaving a pleasant finish. [Good/Very Good] Last year Wemyss bottled MORTLACH 1995, matured for about 20 years and diluted to the usual 46%. Although not specified, it is believed to be a bourbon hogshead, with notes of orange and apple-like fruits, vanilla, coconut, and a slightly younger grainy character reminiscent of ginger. There is an oakiness that tightens the honey-like sweetness, and a subtle woody note, but it feels deepened in complexity. MORTLACH used to be strongly associated with sherry casks that had a sulfury character, but recently there have been more examples like this, showcasing a Speyside-like, elegant bourbon cask style. #MORTLACH (MORTLACH)
